Skinny girl and fat 1/4's

Tali in her New Version of Auntie's Old skirt:

She chose some nice Ric-rac to add along the bottom

raw seam (pure laziness really)

~

Nice fat 1/4's from Wells' in Latrobe

Jesse and Micah, aka "NOOOO, not another Quilt Shop boys!", chose these:

They nagged and nagged and nagged (very naggingly - YES, I know that's not a word, but you get the picture) until I said they could have them!

Not a Mug Tree (Re-use, Recycle)

I love to find new uses for unwanted items and recently picked up a mug tree at an Op Shop for $1.

~

It was handmade (pretty roughly - probably a High School woodwork project) by someone called "Jamie", but it had the rustic charm I was looking for and would serve its new purpose very well...

... as a Craft Tool Tree.

It will most likely end up painted white in the style of Shabby Chic.

It works well and keeps the things I use most close at hand on the sewing desk.

Flamin' blogger... and Cupboard Love etc

Blogger's "Add Image" is driving me NUTS!!!!
Does anyone else have trouble getting their Photos to load??
Its not that they won't load. It just takes so flippin' LONG!
Its a bit like that Pantene Ad. The one where they say,
'it won't happen overnight, but it will happen'.
Its taking up to 5 minutes to load ONE photo. If I try to load 5 images its around 35mins.
(this has become the norm and frankly, I'd rather watch paint dry)
Boo Hoo
:o(
Alright, enough sulking... on with the post!
Ooo, speaking of Post. I've just come back from the Post Office. It was such a buzz posting off a little parcel to Virgina US. Yay!
~
I've been sorting through some sewing room stuff lately and found a few things I'd forgotten about. These fabrics were found in a box that I hadn't even opened since moving almost 3 yrs ago. A basket of newly discovered sweeties
The best kind of 'greens' (actually I like the vegie kind too)
Dear little vintage bunnies
and vintage 'dapple grey'.
(This fabric is a bit like cheescloth -very sweet - not sure what to do with it though)
~ Some treasure's I've picked up over the last few weeks.
Salt Box

Basket

More Baskets - Yep, its official, I'm a basket case :-)

Buttons - these caught my eye 'cos they say 'stitches'

and I needed some more for my collection!

I tell you, that Chookyblue is a Saint!!!

If, like me, you have been having trouble with getting Blogger to load your images into your post (in this lifetime, that is), PLEASE, PLEASE go to Chookyblue's post about emailing pics to your posts. She has very possibly saved me from throwing in the towel.

And just because I am not really into 'pictureless posts'... ...oh, and I'm trying out the info on Chookyblue's post, here is picture of some unusual fabric.

While I found this little pearler in the box with the fabrics on the previous post, it did not always belong to me. This fabric has a history with another blogger (who is going to kill me for this post LOL)and during the late 70's was a very fashionable wrap-around-skirt. Way back then, she was a quiet girl (still is), stick thin, ABBA obsessed (She never took to the cupboard even when they were considered uncool, remaining ever faithful to this talented group) and was shaping up to be an immensly talented trombonist.

Anyway, back to the fabric.

It seems that it is going to be given new life, once again, as a skirt. Tali LOVES purple and so I have decided to turn it into a Raw-edge Skirt for her. I'm sure she'll love it, most probably because when she wears it she'll have a little bit of "Auntie" with her. I'll show you when its done!

Cheers and Thanks again to Chookyblue!

I miss this man!

My Pop was a gorgeous man!
He was gentle, kind, super intellingent,
witty - often without meaning to be and loving.
Today would've been his 92nd birthday.
There are alot of special things in my house that remind me of him, but his hat and his Gladstone Bag are my favourites. He never went anywhere without them. :-)
P.S I'm announcing my giveaway winner tomorrow morning

Oh, a hunting we will go... ...bargain hunting that is!

Tali, Micah and I visited a second hand shop yesterday. Three whole stories of pre-loved goodies to peruse. What fun!!!
I was looking for a bookcase, which I didn't find, but we did find a few other things that caught our eye - well ok mostly mine, lol. I had a good look through the vintage linen, but nothing took my fancy.
Tali found this sweet little box (2 x 2 inches).
Pink and Purple Gems and pink glazing inside.
Suits her perfectly!
These are my finds...
This dear little tin has seen better days, but it'll be great in the sewing room.
Love the basket that kitty is sitting in!
The Bensen's Toffee tin is well loved, but that's part of its charm.
The Carmichael's Chips tin is a repro,
but it'll look sweet with the rest of my collection.
When we got back to car we realized that it had a hidden secret...
inside it was a Hague's Pretzels tin...
But wait...
there's more!
Inside that was a Radford's Roasted Nuts tin.
BONUS!!!!
Happy Blogging!

Tragically Practical Sewing

Forgot to say in the last post... ...there is lots of sewing activity going on here at the moment. Its just all so tragically practical and what I'd probably consider rather non-blog-worthy.

Olive Green Suede - a Spotlight bargain at $4 metre

Large Print Floral on Blue Background - a fantastic $1 per metre!!

Have almost finished a slip cover for the 'seen better days, but still the most comfy' couch, using the boring Green Suede (will be a good base for adding colour with quilts though) and preparing to make new cushion covers for some pre-loved (and soon to be shabbied) timber framed lounge chairs, using the Floral.
Oh, and soon there will be some new Austrian Blinds for Christine's sewing room and spare bedroom using this fabric - also a Spotlight bargain at $2.50 a metre!
Don't get too excited Christine - soon does NOT mean tomorrow :-)

(terrible photo - but you get the idea)
